Open for projects

Your customers show up after hours, don’t find what they need, and call the next company on the list.

I build AI assistants that answer them — in your own words, from your own information, at 2am. Plus the websites and apps around them. Fixed prices, published scope, and you own everything at the end.

AI Assistants, Websites & Apps — Built in Portland

I’m Abdi. Alamir Labs is one person, and it’s the one building your project — no account manager to relay through, and no junior quietly learning on your budget.

My specialty is the unglamorous half of AI: the retrieval, the data plumbing, and the routing that decide whether an assistant is genuinely reliable or just a demo that makes things up. Most AI failures aren’t the model being stupid — they’re the system handing it the wrong information and nobody noticing.

So everything I build is designed to say “I don’t know” rather than guess. In front of your customer, a confident wrong answer costs more than no answer at all.

Case Studies

Three times I caught my own work being wrong

Anyone can show you what they shipped. These are the times something looked like it was working and wasn’t — what the number turned out to be, and what I changed. Every figure here can be checked.

  1. −2.9% true expected value, after fees

    Prediction-market signal engine

A 64% win rate that was losing money

    What it looked like
The strategy was picking winners about 64% of the time across 700+ live markets. On paper that reads as a working system. The P&L was negative anyway.
    What was actually wrong
A units error in the edge definition. The scanner was detecting a basket arbitrage but the executor was placing a single leg — so the basket’s edge was being quoted on a directional trade. Two different things wearing the same number.
    What I did
Recomputed true expected value at −2.9% after fees. Realized P&L matched that figure, not the win rate. I put a verifier at the order choke point to reject negative-EV legs, and published the negative result instead of the 64% headline.

  2. 0.70 a cutoff that rejected every correct match

    Cross-data assistant, in production

The retrieval that silently returned nothing

    What it looked like
After swapping the embedding model, the assistant still answered every question fluently. No errors, no warnings, nothing in the logs. The answers were just quietly wrong.
    What was actually wrong
The similarity cutoff was 0.70, tuned for the previous model. The new one scored genuinely correct matches between 0.35 and 0.65 — so the filter was throwing away every real result. Retrieval returned nothing and the model answered from memory instead of the knowledge base.
    What I did
Recalibrated the threshold to the new model’s actual score distribution. The lesson stuck: a silent retrieval failure is worse than a crash, because the output still looks confident.

  3. 68% answered with zero AI involved

    Instant demo generator

    Measuring before trusting the model

    The question
Before writing a line of AI, I wanted to know how much of a business’s information could be read straight off their own site — and how much actually needed a model.
    What the measurement said
Across 12 real contractor sites: 10 of 12 parsed from a plain fetch, 9 of 12 publish structured markup, and 68% of an average business profile came back complete with zero AI calls. Hours, address, services, service area — already there, exact, free.
    What I did
Scoped the model to filling gaps only, and enforced per-field provenance so generated text can never overwrite verified source data. The result is an assistant that can’t invent your opening hours, because it never wrote them in the first place — and declines pricing outright rather than guessing.

Most builders show you the wins. The failures are the part that tells you whether anyone was actually checking.

Talk to a specialist

Six things I build. Ask any of them.

Tap an orb and it tells you what that service actually includes, what it costs, and what it won’t do. Every answer comes from my own written scope — none of it is generated, so none of it can invent a price.

AI Assistants

Our Process

How it goes

  1. 01

    You send three things

Business name, website, and what you want. That’s the whole form. No call unless you want one.

  2. 02

    I send back something working

For assistants, a live demo built from your own site. Ask it anything. Try to break it. If you don’t like it, that’s the end of it and it cost you nothing.

  3. 03

    Fixed price, written scope

You see the number and exactly what’s included before anything starts. No hourly drift and no surprise invoices.

  4. 04

    You own all of it

Code, accounts, files, and a written guide so you can change things yourself. Nothing is held hostage.

Boundaries

What I don’t do

A short list is worth more than a long one. If it’s here, I’ll tell you so on day one instead of finding out halfway through.

  • Security audits and penetration testing
  • Payment, billing, or money-movement systems
  • Taking over someone else’s large existing codebase
  • Anything needing HIPAA or PCI sign-off
  • Live pair-programming or “teach me as you go” sessions
